SHS Softball Welcomes Coach Bobbijean Gidley
After a historic 2023 season that ended with a 2nd place trophy at the WIAA State and a
27-1 record, the Superior High School Softball Team is excited to welcome Bobbijean Gidley to the dugout.
After nearly two decades as a coach, SHS and the School District of Superior would like to wish Mike Sather
the best on his much-deserved retirement.
Gidley was a Junior Varsity coach before taking the helm of the Varsity team. Previously, Gidley coached at
Proctor and led the JV crew. As an educator in Superior, Gidley has already developed countless important
relationships with most players and coaches.
"I am very optimistic about taking on the program," said Gidley. "That optimism is coming from a large group
of people that will be joining my coaching staff. While softball is a team sport, coaching softball is even more
of a team battle. By being able to work with other experts on the sport or even experts in different positions,
I feel like we will be setting our players up for success. Fans can expect another season of nail-biting softball!
With many returning varsity players and some new faces to the starting lineup, our girls will be able to show
off their excessive talent and how much hard work they continuously put into the off-season."
A former UW-Superior softball player and alum, Gidley grew up in the northern metro, where she graduated
from St Francis High School. After graduating from UWS, her first job was teaching Keystone at SHS. For
more information, check out this 1 on 1 interview with Coach Gidley.
During the winter months, the softball team hosts several open gyms on Mondays and Wednesdays. All SHS
students are invited to participate and try out for the team. The spring sports season will begin in March. The
softball team is expected to open the season on March 28th as the Spartans will host Rice Lake at the NBC
Spartan Sports Complex.
