Community Leaders Tour SMS For Education Day
SUPERIOR, WI - Every year, the University of Wisconsin-Superior’s Leadership Superior/Douglas County Program tours the area to learn more about the rich history of the Twin Ports. From local businesses to area schools, there is so much to discover when you are a part of the LSDC cohort.
On April 14, 2026, about 20 different business and community leaders paid a visit to Superior Middle School. While at SMS, the cohort toured the building, learned how programs like Family and Consumer Science have changed over the years, heard from students, and ate lunch prepared by the school district’s food service staff.
Among the many programs highlighted were the SMS intramurals program and the reasons students wanted to become 8th-grade leaders. This allowed the cohort to really get an inside look at what goes on at Superior Middle School.
“It’s always exciting when this cohort visits our schools,” said Dr. Amy Starzecki, Superior District Administrator. “I was once in the program. I really see the value in what they offer. This year, we tried to do something different and hosted the education day at Superior Middle School. Many of our community members haven’t toured the facility in a while, and this is a great opportunity to see what goes on in our classrooms.”
